TALES OF BERSERIA
2019-2020 ✦ CG, Wacom, marker, publisher-provided artwork ✦ manga lettering
This manga was based off of the video game
Tales of Berseria, from the popular "Tales" game series. Lots of action scenes made for lots of fun sound effects and screams to letter!

COMPLEX AGE
2016 ✦ CG, Wacom, marker, publisher-provided artwork ✦ manga lettering
While I was only able to letter the first volume of
this series, due to the scheduling demands of other titles, I had fun
working on it. There were some good opportunities to use hand-drawn (marker)
lettering, especially in the credits page, and on the "click" sounds you see
in the first sample. Also this book was my first time laying out a glossary,
and that was a fun challenge. I got to play around with a lot of different
fonts on this book.

PANORAMA ISLAND
2012 ✦ CG, Wacom, publisher-provided artwork ✦ manga lettering
For Last Gasp's English-language release of Suehiro Maruo & Edogawa Rampo's
The Strange Tale of Panorama Island,
I once again teamed up with
Ryan Sands. I
handled the book design, lettering, and
touch-up. This section focuses on the lettering. This book was a dream for me to work on, since I love Maruo's
work and wish more was available in English. I'm also quite intrigued by the work of Edogawa Rampo, the famous mystery novelist whose story this manga adapts.

For the lettering on this book, I kept the original sound effects intact,
but subtitled them inline. I kept signage and other incidental text in its
original Japanese, but added translation notes. The only sound effects I
changed were voice-related, such as laughing and gasping sounds. Looking
back, since this was only my second pro manga release, the dialog lettering
is a little clunky at times (as with Tokyo Zombie before it), but I'm still very proud of the project as
a whole and I have very fond memories of it.
If you'd like to see the cover sleeve design I made for the book, you

TOKYO ZOMBIE
2008 ✦ CG, Wacom, marker, publisher-provided artwork ✦ manga lettering
For Last Gasp's English-language release of Yusaku Hanakuma's
Tokyo Zombie,
I did the book design, lettering, and touch-up. This was a really fun
project to work on, especially since I got to collaborate with my good buddy
Ryan Sands. This
was our first official manga adaptation release.
