Music, Save My Life   These seven tracks took me 20 years. After making Silence is Golden, I hit a long musical creative block, and life kept getting busier and busier. I made the noise EP Sugar Brain 3 in 2011, hoping to kickstart myself back into music, but life got in the way. When I was living in Nagasaki, I managed to make four songs, "Novo", "Amethyst", "Street Meat" and "199X" in 2023 and 2014, with the plan of making a new LP. Life (endless work deadlines, mostly) kept getting in the way, and I almost gave up hope that I'd be able to make music again. Eventually, feeling the urgency and panic of life passing by quickly, I became obsessed with making music again, and I made two new tracks, "Final Girl" and "Blood Oath" in December 2025, then "Music, Save My Life" in January 2026. I made some tweaks to the earlier tracks (added an extra minute to Novo, for example, and fine-tuned the album flow) and with that, I decided to call this album finished! I set myself an arbitrary deadline as it was important to me to finish it before more than 20 years had elapsed since my last “proper” album. It's my best work yet and I really feel like I grew as a musician. It's an album that juggles a futuristic sci-fi vibe with a sinister undercurrent, albeit with flashes of optimism. I went all-out on soundscapes that fill your headphones, tried to polish up my sound a bit, and held back a bit on the chaos of my older music. It feels great to have made music again after so long. I needed that. Since this is a new beginning, I decided to use my own given name for my music. “Macro” was a neat name this past 22 years, but it’s a name used by too many other musicians online. (Honestly, giving up the cool logo I designed was the hardest part.) Evan Hayden is fine though. That’s me! It makes sense to unify all my art under the same name. I have so many music ideas, and I dream of having enough free time to make them reality.
